Chairman's Report

Dear EUnited Robotics members,
Dear readers,

The media attention received by robotics and automation lately is unprecedented. EUnited Robotics has been involved in many of the recent hot topics. From the roundtable talk with Commissioner Oettinger on identifying and carrying out measures for digitizing European industry to working on a host of projects, e.g. recent economic studies on fear of automation, activities at AUTOMATICA 2016, and global robotics market development, just to name a few.  These topics, among others, will be presented in more depth at our upcoming members' assembly.

I am happy to report that "World Robotics 2015", the international benchmark for global robot statistics covering all relevant market related activities of industrial and service robots, was published by the IFR today.

Based on the study, we have had another record year (2014) with 29% growth in industrial robot sales. Sales were up in all regions with Asia taking the lead (particularly China). In Europe it is Germany that takes the lead. Within one year (2014) the sales figures increased by around 10% to about 20,100 units – to date the largest number of sales registered within twelve months.

On the service robotics front the picture is just as upbeat. Sales of personal and domestic robots climbed for the second consecutive year by 28% to three million units in 2014. Entertainment robots had a sales growth of 40% in 2014 over the previous year, and sales of professional service robots had a solid growth of 11.5%.

Please do not miss the following dates:   EUnited Robotics Members' Assembly on November 26th, 2015; EUnited General Assembly as well as EUnited Dinner Debate on November 25th, 2015.   All events will be held in Brussels.  More information will be sent to members and invited guests in due time.

I look forward to seeing you in Brussels.

Have Your Say on Standards for Digital Single Market

The European Commission launched a public consultation on Standards for the Digital Single Market (DSM) on 23 September 2015. With this consultation, the Commission aims to gather views on priorities for standards.

The consultation is open until 16 December.

Standards are important tools for making different systems work together and stimulating the emergence of new eco-systems across a digital single market of more than 500 million people in Europe. They can boost innovation and reinforce the competitiveness of the European industry.
